Online sales giant Amazon on Thursday announced the purchase of digital comics platform comiXology, which is responsible for the popular iPad app 'Comics' that consistently ranks near the top of the iOS App Store's top grossing charts.

Digital comic book seller ComiXology, whose iPad application is consistently one of the top grossing options on Apple's App Store, informed users on Thursday that it was victim to a security breach, and users must reset their passwords.

While games dominated the App Store in 2013 in terms of top grossing apps, digital comic app comiXology has announced that it was the highest grossing non-game iPad app  — for the third year running.

Comixology has updated its Comics iOS app to take full advantage of the Retina display found on Apple's new iPad.
