As some app development teams race to include as many new features in their navigation apps as they can, others are creating complementary features outside those same apps. Perhaps there is no ‘one’ best solution anymore.

Despite the overwhelming popularity of Google's free mapping app and Apple's own Maps GPS navigation firm Garmin has continued to embrace the iOS platform. The StreetPilot Onboard and Navigon apps have been met with mixed reception, so I was curious to see if the latest versions have brought any significant improvements.

Hot on the heels of Apple's controversial decision to drop all Google Maps services — including Street View — from the default Maps application in its future iOS 6 release, popular navigation app Navigon has released an update which includes the feature. With version 2.1, demoed originally at MWC in February, the app now provides Street View snapshots of destinations, to help with the final stages of journeys. Users can rotate the view 360 degrees to get a better idea of their eventual surroundings...

The iPhone, being without a built-in turn-by-turn navigations app, has found itself with a number of third-party options. We've test a lot of them and found the best to be Waze, the free socially-aware app with live traffic and plenty of other awesome features.
